For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.  For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.  And if you are Christ’s then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. – Galatians 3:26-29

I grew up playing team sports and playing in the band.  I was known as a very competitive, driven person.  I was pretty independent, priding myself on being prepared and not wanting to depend on anyone else.  As the teams I was on became more competitive, I soon realized that independence on a team was lonely and unsuccessful.  You also cannot play in the band and march to your own drum beat either.

The apostle Paul reminded each of us that God doesn’t want us to be independent.  He wants us to be interdependent.  God designed each of us to lean on Him and one another.  Paul reminded us that we were never meant to do life alone.

In fact, if you find yourself struggling today, ask yourself the question, “Whom am I depending upon to help me through?”  If the answer is no one, then you are not living the interdependent life God desires for you. If you don’t have a church to call home, or if you are acting independently of it, then maybe it’s time to break down the walls of pride and take your first step today.

Remember, a great team or band is never lonely.  By banding together with other believers, you can do immeasurably more than you ever though possible.
