Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” – John 8:12

All of us have attempted to find the way in a dark place before locating the light switch.  I do that most mornings as I get out of bed during the summer months.  I do that primarily so I do not wake up my wife, who is a teacher, and is entitled to sleep late after nine months of teaching!  I cannot tell you how many times I’ve tripped over something that “wasn’t supposed to be there”.  One member of our mission group here in Honduras was sharing with me his experience the night before we got on the airplane.  His toe didn’t fair well.

The purpose of light is to illuminate.  Jesus said in this verse that He is the Light of this world and if we receive Him, our paths will be made clear and darkness will not rule us.  Many today walk in darkness because they refuse to accept the free gift God offers to all who will reach out and take it.

Today, we brought the Light to two elementary schools with Vacation Bible School. Exhausting … two-and-a-half hours in the morning, and then repeated in the afternoon, and yet it is so energizing watching the eyes of children “light up” with Bible stories, games and music.  Pray for tomorrow when the gospel presentation will be given.  Pray for the follow-up.  Pastor Julio and his church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, will visit the home of every child who makes a decision.
