Satisfaction. It’s a word we use all the time. We can be satisfied with our work, our house, our life. People can satisfy us in many ways, both personally and professionally. Satisfaction comes when you receive what you want or need. There’s nothing better than feeling satisfied after a wonderful meal that’s been prepared for you. That is, until the next day when you wake up hungry all over again. There are very few things in life that bring never ending satisfaction.
So can we ever be satisfied? I guess that depends on what you’re hungry for. Jesus tells us in John 6:35 that He is the “bread of life; whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty.” Sounds like the best diet ever! But Jesus isn’t talking about bread that satisfies physical hunger. He’s talking about bread that satisfies life. He’s talking about how He can satisfy the needs we have like nothing in this world.
Life is full of pain and sorrow. There is hopelessness and despair everywhere you look. Honestly, I don’t know how anyone can be happy in the world, much less deal with the trials of daily life. Only Jesus has the answer for all the pain, but do we really believe that? As Christians, we have the bread of life that everyone is hungering for. We should be sharing it with everyone we meet; but too often, we don’t. Are we too busy meeting our physical needs rather than our spiritual needs?
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 to ‘seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you’. The word “seek” means “to crave”. We are to crave the Kingdom of God more than what the world has to offer. How do we do that? Get to know the King of the Kingdom! As you read the rest of Matthew 6, you will find a beautiful picture of what life is like in the Kingdom. It is a feast that truly satisfies!
What we consume will consume us. Are you being consumed by the world and the lies it tells you? Or are you feasting on the Bread of Life that satisfies your every need? Just as we choose everyday what to eat, we have to choose what to feed our heart, mind and soul. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Spend some time with Him and you’ll find satisfaction that never ends!
