In light of the frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and all the chaos that this season can bring, we often forget why we are celebrating. We celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord. With the busyness that comes with the season, the family dinners, the shopping sprees, the frantic cleaning and decorating, there is a lot that commands our time and attention that the call of the gospel and the call of Christ sometimes gets lost in the noise.
So as we make our gift and to do lists, we have one more list to add. Here is a list of six discipleship resources to help define and guide in our call to joyfully make disciples.
- The State of Discipleship by Navigators
- Building a Discipleship Culture by Mike Breen
- The Lost Art of Disciple Making by Leroy Elms
- Disciples are Made Not Born by Walter Henrichsen
- Rediscovering Discipleship by Robby Gallaty
- Growing True Disciples by George Barna
These resources can make gifts or our own reminders of what God calls us to in Scripture. And as we walk through this amazing season and celebrate the joy of our Savior being born, let us remember those around us may not have heard or may need encouragement in their walk.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:6-7 ESV
