The purpose is found in Matthew 28:18-20

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The Answer is MAKE DISCIPLES!

The original purpose of the Church was to carry out the Great Commission, which is found in Matthew 28:18-20.  But that is not always the way Church functions today.

So how do we get back to the original purpose of Church?

We have to understand the basics of disciple making and have a basic plan to accomplish its purposes.

The basics of disciple making are found in the Great Commission.  They are:

Reaching – go and make disciples

Ministry – baptizing them

Teaching – teaching them to obey

The Basic Plan

There are many plans and models around, but the simple plans are usually the best.  The basic plan we are going to look at is as follows.

  •  Making Disciples – Coming up with ways to reach out to others who are unchurched or who don’t know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  •  Maturing Believers – Finding ways to grow and equip Christ followers in the spiritual disciplines (prayer, personal Bible study, worship and witnessing).
  •  Multiply Ministries – Looking for opportunities to put into practice a Christ follower’s spiritual gifts, vocational skills and natural abilities while ministering to others in the church and in the community.

Christ followers must look for ways to reach out to those who don’t know Christ and share the Gospel (the Good News of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice) with them.  We then look for opportunities to help them in their walk with Christ and help them find their fit (place to serve) in the church.  While we learn to obey and following the Biblical principles and teachings of Christ together.

What is a Christ Follower you might ask?  Well it is simply someone who believes and follows the teaching of Jesus Christ

Ask yourself where are you in the plan?  Are you following the plan?  What do you need to do with the plan?

If you are a Christ Follower you need know Christ, make disciples, mature believers, and multiply ministries within His church. So how are you doing?

Christ’s purpose was clear to take our punishment/place and give us an opportunity to restore our relationship with God the Father. Our purpose is just as clear, to make disciples for Christ.

So I ask again, how are you doing?
